Applying as an International Student
We are pleased and honored to accept applications from students around the world who are interested in our undergraduate programs. Our community includes 17,000 undergraduate students who come from over 100 countries. Each year, about 1% to 2% of the enrolling first-year class is international. We consider an international student as one who does not hold US citizenship or permanent resident status in the United States.
International students attending UNC-Chapel Hill have become involved with every aspect of the university, from writing for the daily newspaper, heading volunteer programs, participating in musical ensembles, playing sports, and achieving academic success. For example, Lisette Yorke, a 2009 graduate from Nova Scotia, Canada, earned a 2008 Rhodes Scholarship for advanced studies at Oxford University.
Apply online through your UNC Portal. If you don't have a UNC Portal yet, you can easily create one. We encourage all students to use our convenient online application. You may also download the International Application if you would rather complete the form and submit it by mail. Please see our Requirements for international applicants.
