Please know that we’re very sorry for any technical difficulties you may have experienced while trying to submit your application. We are in regular communication with the Common Application, which is doing their best to resolve these issues. We thank you for your patience.

If you haven’t applied already, we’d like to remind you that although our Early Action (EA) deadline is October 15 (tomorrow night at 11:59 PM), if you would like to be considered for our EA deadline but are unable to submit an application by tomorrow night due to technical difficulties, you may still submit your application until Monday, October 21 at 11:59 PM. Please note that all EA applicants will receive the same consideration regardless of whether an application is submitted by either October 15 or October 21.

For all: the deadline for counselors and teachers to submit school materials on behalf of EA candidates will remain November 1.

If you’ve applied already, we thank you and we look forward to getting to know you.¬† Again, thank you for your patience. We appreciate your interest in Carolina.

  1. Dan Bowen says:

Thank you so much, on behalf of my son, for the extension. He tried all weekend to submit his application to no avail. The website was a nightmare to say the least. Even today, in an effort to help him while he is in school, we are unable to even enter the website to submit his application.

    • katie says:

SUBMITTING YOUR CA AFTER YOU ARE DONE: TRY AN IPAD, IT WORKED FOR ME, I HAVE 3 COMPUTERS AT HOME, THE MOST CURRENT ONE WOULD NOT LOAD, JUST SPINNING, BUT MY 2 YEAR OLD COMPUTER LOADED BETTER AND I IPAD WORKED BEST FOR SUBMITTING.

SIGNATURE STEP #3: there is a 24 hr lag time between paying and CA recognizing your pmt. to avoid double billing pay one day, then 24 hours later go back and it will take you to the signature page without having to pay again

  2. Denise Korynta says:

Thank you for extending this. After finally being able to get to the payment page, it charged our credit card 3 times…even though it said it would not accept payment since payment was previously made. The website kept looping back to the payment screen and would not allow our daughter to “sign”. Who are we supposed to contact regarding getting credited for the extra $160 we paid?
    Thank you for your help.

    • Ashley Memory says:

Hi Denise. We’re very sorry. The Common Application is aware of a bug in the payment screen that is causing applicants to be charged more than once.

Here is what they are advising applicants to do. From the Common Application’s Website: “In some cases, applicants who click the payment submit button more than once may discover multiple charges. In nearly all cases, we can (and will) automatically refund the extra payments. If additional payments persist on your account after 72 hours, please contact the Help Center directly so we can expedite the refund. The Common Application–not the colleges–is responsible for refunding multiple payments.”

You can submit an inquiry directly to the CA through their knowledge base at: https://appsupport.commonapp.org/link/portal/33011/33013/Article/931/Known-Issues-and-Progress-Updates. Look for the “Ask A Question” tab.

    • Shelly Helms says:

This is the reply I recevied.
You would have to contact the school as The CA does not take payments. The colleges use a third party payment processor, you can either contact the third party processor directly or the school.

Thank you for contacting the Support Team.

  3. parekha says:

Thank you so much for your kind consideration! Most applicants wait till this time as they want to make sure their recommendations, supplementary essay, etc..have all come in! all their hardwork towards meeting the deadline would be disappointing. appreciate it truly!

  4. Valerie McMillan says:

That is such a relief – it is impossible to get onto the Common App today. I’m sure it will be worse tomorrow.

Do you have any other mechanism for submitting the application, or is the Common App the only option?

    • Ashley Memory says:

Hi Valerie. We’re so sorry; we know that this is so frustrating. At this time, yes, the Common App is the only way to apply. We’re hoping that these issues will be resolved very soon but we have extended the deadline until next Monday (Oct. 21) to give everyone extra time.

  5. Kerry says:

Thank you for extending the application deadline. Although I submitted it last Thursday, I’m not even sure it was sent properly. I was charged the fee, but the only signature page I saw was regarding the credit card payment with my name, nothing for my daughter. How do I know if it was received?

    • Ashley Memory says:

Hi Kerry. Please either call us at (919) 966-3621 or send us an email at unchelp@admissions.unc.edu with your daughter’s full name and birth date and we will check on it for you.

    • Kerry says:

Thank you Ashley! I just sent an e mail to unc help Thank you again!

    • katie says:

this happened to us 7 times, i finally figured it out, if you did not sign the signature page, it was not sent, after pmt, wait 24 hours then go back as though you are going to pay, it will take you straight to the signature page without having to pay again. but you have to wait 24 hours.

    • kerry says:

Thanks Katie! I figured it out too! Too bad there are no instructions telling people what to do in that section, very confusing! Good Luck!

  6. Abby says:

Thank you for the extension!! I have been trying to log in and submit yesterday and today. My school has the day off today so I was glad I would have some extra time this morning to finalize everything, but obviously not. It’s really inexcusable that Common App has so many problems and particularly at a time when they should have anticipated very heavy traffic on their site.

  7. Cara says:

Thank you for the extension. I have not been able to submit my application for 2 days now. Additionally, one of my recommenders received an invite to submit a letter but is having trouble due to the system not listing my name.
    Any help is appreciated.

  8. Maria Tellez says:

I have submitted my application but one of my recommenders is having some difficulties sending the actual recommendation. Is there any way that he could mail the recommendation to the admisions office?

    • Ashley Memory says:

Absolutely. Please ask the recommender to mail the letter (including your name and birth date) directly to our office at:

      Office of Undergraduate Admissions
University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill
      Jackson Hall
      Campus Box 2200
      Chapel Hill, NC 27599-2200

  9. Deja says:

If I apply Early Action and am rejected, am I allowed to re-apply for Regular Decision?

    • Ashley Memory says:

We do have two different application deadlines–Early Action and Regular Decision–but if you apply for Early Action deadline and are not offered admission, unfortunately, we are not able to consider you again for admission within our Regular Decision deadline. For those first-year candidates to whom we are not able to offer admission, we do encourage them to apply again as a transfer student after one or two years of study elsewhere.

  11. Adam says:

Thank you for extending the deadline! Has Commmon App stated when the problem will be fixed? Should students try to submit later this week instead? Best,

    Adam

  12. Ali says:

I submitted my application today through the CommonApp and paid for it but the signature page never came up. Now when I log back in to CommonApp I still see the “Submit” button as if I had never submitted it. I don’t want to click submit again and have to pay for it again but I’m not sure if my Application was sent or not. What should I do about this?

  13. Allison Miller says:

Thank you so much! My anxiety has reduced quite a bit.

  14. Samantha says:

So I’ve tried to submit my application but to no avail. I’m so thankful that you’ve extended the deadly, but I’m still worried because on the common app it still says that the deadline is October 15th.

  15. Samantha says:

So I have tried to submit my application but to no avail. I’m so thankful that you’ve extended the deadly, but I’m still worried because on the common app it still says that the deadline is October 15th.

  16. Jasmine Thongnopnua says:

I have a question concerning tests and test deadlines. Is there someone I can email who can answer my questions?

  17. Kevin Powell says:

Thanks so much for the understanding. My daughter had her application complete several days ago and has been trying to send over the entire weekend using different browsers on different machines. This has been a fiasco.

    Kevin

  18. Vin says:

Thank you so much for the deadline extension! I’ve been attempting to submit my application for days now and the website is simply not cooperating. Hopefully the technical difficulties will clear up soon.

  19. Alex Vance says:

Hi! Is the deadline for the Poque and other merit scholarships also being extended to the new EZ deadline/

  20. Emily says:

Is the common application portion due online by the 15th or is that extended until the 21st with the writing supplement? I’ve heard mixed comments but haven’t seen anything specific from the admissions office.

  21. Kelsey Patrick says:

Thank you so much! I cannot express my gratitude for this extension. I have been unable to even generate the PDF for submitting the common application for the past two days. I was terribly worried that I would miss the deadline and the opportunities of the early action deadline.

  22. Darshan Patel says:

Hey, on the common app is still says the deadline is Oct. 15th. If i click submit would it be considered EA or regular??

  23. Victoria Johnson says:

I, too, am unable to submit my application via the Common App. I will continue to try until I succeed. Once it seems to be submitted, can I contact the admissions office to make absolutely sure it has been received? I’m worried about that. Also, once you have received my application, what will the process be for creating a mycarolina account, checking the status of my application, etc?

  24. Katie Ferrone says:

Thank you so much for extending the deadline. I got really nervous last night when I was trying to submit and I couldn’t. After reading all of these reviews I now know what to do and how to fix the multiple problems I encountered. Looking forward to applying!

  25. Kathryn Smith says:

Common app is now working. Is the extended deadline still the same? Also, the common app site says that the deadline is still October 15th. Will this be changed so that applying later is feasible?

  26. I am a teacher recommender & I cannot get this to work. Do I need to print this out & submit it by snail mail?

    • Ashley Memory says:

Thank you for your hard work on behalf of your students who are applying to Carolina. We are very sorry for any inconvenience and frustration that this issue has caused you. As a first step, if you don’t mind, please do report the issue you are experiencing with the recommendation letter to the Common App through their support center at https://recsupport.commonapp.org/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=33014 so that this issue may be resolved. Submitting letters directly to the Common App will enable us to receive them faster than by sending them through the traditional mail. This manner will also enable us to communicate more efficiently with students about missing items. Again, we’re very sorry for any inconvenience, but please also know that our deadline for receiving supplemental items such as letters is not until November 1. If you prefer, however, you may email us the letter to uncsubmit@admissions.unc.edu. This would also be faster than traditional mail.

  27. Denise says:

When is the deadline for financial aid documents if applying early action? It seems it may be March, but I want to be sure.

    thank you
