Online Readmission General Application Information

The following is general information that may be helpful to you when filling out the application. If you have any questions, please call our office at (919) 966-3621 (Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm).

Who Should Apply:

Any student who withdraws or fails to complete a semester and plans to re-enroll as a regular, full-time student.

A student leaving the University with an academic deficiency must restore his or her eligibility and complete this application in order to be readmitted as a regular student. Restoration of eligibility can be accomplished either by enrolling in summer sessions at UNC-CH or taking UNC-CH labeled correspondence courses through Independent Studies. Students who complete summer courses on campus with satisfactory grades will be eligible to continue their studies at UNC without further action. Students completing Carolina Courses Online or UNC-CH labeled correspondence courses will need to apply for readmission to be eligible to take courses on campus in the fall, spring, or summer sessions.

A student leaving the University for medical or disciplinary reasons must complete this application and have clearance from either Student Health Service or the Office of Student Affairs as appropriate before being readmitted.

Readmission Application and Deadlines

Application

Deadlines

  • Spring Semester: December 10
  • 1st Summer Session: May 1
  • 2nd Summer Session: June 1
  • Fall Semester: August 1

In any case, a readmission application must be on file preferably 90 days prior to the beginning of the semester of intended re-enrollment but no later than 2 weeks prior to registration for the term the student wishes to enter.

Because the University must adhere to enrollment projections, readmission is not guaranteed even if the student is academically eligible. For this reason, we encourage students to apply as early as possible in the event that later enrollment projections necessitate adjustments to the number of readmissions. In such instances, preference would be given to applications already on file rather than applications that may arrive later.

We suggest making a copy of the Online Readmission Application after you have filled it out, but before you submit it. You should also make an extra copy of the Confirmation Page that you will be sent. You will then have a copy for your records if problems arise with your application.

WAIT!! You must know your Personal ID Number to use the online application. If you have forgotten your Personal ID Number, you can access the PID Online Inquiry screen via the Online Readmission Application. This will allow you to obtain your PID but you will need to write it down so you have it available. You can then use the "BACK" button to return to the online application.

You must hold a valid U.S. Social Security number issued by the U.S. Social Security Administration to use the Online Readmission Application!

If you choose NOT to use your Social Security number or do not possess one, use the blank printable paper application and mail it to us.

Special Instructions:

If a required field is left blank, you will get an error message and will be prompted to use the "BACK" button in order to return to the application page and fix the error.

If you are claiming NC Residency for Tuition Purposes, you are required to complete a residency application form. You have the option to complete the Readmission Online Residency Form OR print a blank Residency Form to fill out and mail in. Note: You can be a legal resident of North Carolina, but still be considered a non-resident for tuition purposes. Your residency status will remain out-of-state until your form is received and residency is approved.

Once you "SUBMIT" your online application, an Confirmation Page Form is generated for you to print. Note: You will need to mail a signed copy of the Confirmation Page with your non-refundable application fee and any official transcripts needed to Undergraduate Admissions (see Supporting Documents section).
