Transfer Enrollment Checklist

Welcome future Tar Heels! If you’ve received your online offer of admission, here’s an overview of what you need to do before the first day of classes. Remember, the only way to secure your spot at Carolina is to accept your online offer of admission and pay the $250 deposit. Read on for more details!

STEP 1: Visit onyen.unc.edu, click on “Create or Manage ONYEN”, and then choose: “Create an ONYEN.”

STEP 2: You’ll be asked if you have a Guest ID. Click “yes” if you do. Then enter your Guest ID when prompted and skip to step 4. P.S. your Guest ID will expire after you create your ONYEN.

STEP 3: If you don’t have a Guest ID, click “no”. You’ll be prompted to enter your UNC PID (Personal Identification Number), which was included at the bottom of your online decision. Forgot your PID? Please visit the online PID Office Lookup website.

STEP 4: After entering this information, you’ll be presented with an ONYEN. You can make changes to your ONYEN and create a confidential password.

STEP 1: Log into selfservice.unc.edu using your ONYEN and Password.

STEP 2: Click on “Email Sign-Up” on the left hand menu to set up your UNC email account, create an easy-to-remember alias, and change your password.

STEP 3: Check your email by visiting heelmail.unc.edu.

Financial Aid Transfers2

STEP 1: Complete The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) – UNC Code 002974

STEP 2: And complete The CSS/Financial Aid Profile – UNC Code 5816

Test Scores -transfers

STEP 1: Find out if your scores qualify for credit by viewing our test placement tables. To find out more about math placement and how to receive placement for Math 110 (which certain math and chemistry courses require), click here. For more information about foreign language placement, click here.

STEP 2: Have the testing service send your official score reports directly to us. Unfortunately, we can’t accept scores reported on your transcript or application.

While enrolling online is the preferred method, you have the option to download an electronic copy of the reply form and mail it to us (postmarked no later than May 15).

Register for Classes - transfers3

Pro tip: you’ll need to create your ONYEN and set up your UNC email before you can access the module on the Academic Advising – Fall 2017 Transfer Student Sakai Site. Once you’ve completed the module, register for classes, and schedule an appointment with an academic advisor to discuss your academic plan. If you have been admitted directly to a Professional School, please contact that school to schedule an appointment with one of their advisors.

Look out for an email from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions with instructions and a link to the online community standard form.

STEP 1: Learn more about orientation.

STEP 2: Click here to register and choose “Undergraduate Orientation.” Sessions are offered in early June through mid-August.

Final Transcripts - transfer2

Request that your current school send an official copy of your final transcript, which should include any classes you’ve completed since applying.

STEP 1: Learn more about your housing options and how you’ll find out about your room assignment.

STEP 2: When you’re ready to apply, click here and choose “MyHousing – Register for Housing.”

**If you have a disability or medical condition and are requesting housing accommodations, we recommend that you complete your housing application and submit all necessary documentation including a Self-Identification form by May 1, 2017.

STEP 1: Learn more about UNC Campus Health.

STEP 2: Click here to complete the immunization forms and choose “Immunization and Health History Form.”

Health Insurance 2

STEP 1: Learn more about Mandatory Health Insurance.

STEP 2: Enroll online for UNC’s student health insurance plan by the effective policy date of August 1.

OR

If you have health insurance coverage from another source, you will need to complete the online waiver process by September 12 to confirm that you have coverage.

***The enrollment period and online waiver process will be available in early June. Please note that if you do not enroll or waive by the respective deadline, you will still be responsible for paying the health insurance premium.
