National Championship
2005 National Championships: UNC Tar
Heels. Wow, that looks good doesn’t it? When people ask me
about my time at Carolina, I will always start with “I was
in school when the Tar Heels won the national championship.” I’ve
seen a lot of national championships games but nothing compares to
watching your college team play, watching guys you have class with,
the boys you have been cheering on all year play in the big dance.
This experience was one the most amazing things I have ever or will
ever be a part of. Nothing can compare to crowding around the television
with my friends and hold on to each other, afraid to breathe because
it might cause Raymond to miss the shot. Except maybe screaming
and jumping for joy when May got the rebound and we KNEW we had just
won the NCAA Championship. After the game my friends and I couldn’t
run down to Franklin Street fast enough. All the way there we yelled
and screamed, knowing that come Tuesday morning we probably wouldn’t
be able to speak.
As I stood on Franklin Street Monday and watched
the Tar Heel faithful celebrate a long awaited victory, I knew
I was part of something bigger, something no matter where I was I’d
always remember because I’m a Tar Heel born and a Tar Heel
bred.
