What I did this summer
Simply put, my summer was amazing. I finally got out of Chapel Hill for more
than a weekend (I had been here for 18 months straight doing work
and school). And more important to me, I was out to have an adventure.
I originally started out chronicling my summer in an online web-log
(blog) called Washington Adventure. Unfortunately, I stopped writing
weekly after only a few short weeks. This is where I run into a little
problem: I cant possibly remember everything I did because I did so
much.
This summer I interned with DATELINE NBC in Washington, D.C. (No, I
didnt put the name in all caps to draw attention to it. That is
actually the correct way to write it.) As I said before, it was amazing.
At DL I had the chance to work directly with Emmy-award-winning
producers on their projects and I even had the chance to develop
projects on my own for air.
So the work was nice, but the things that I had access to were even better.
I visited the Supreme Court and sat in the press gallery during session, I
visited the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (home of
the crash-test dummy), I met Ron Reagan (jr.), I watched Meet the
Press, I sat on the set of TODAY, I interviewed a deputy assistant
director of the FBI ... the list goes on.
Rivaling my fun for eleven weeks at DL was my one-week vacation during which
I attended the Democratic National Convention and worked for ABC World News
Tonight. Lets just say that I now have a ton of pictures with famous people.
Ok, so did going to UNC help me get this internship? Well, I dont think that
UNC listed on my resume got me that second look. But I do think
that UNC has provided me with the opportunity to have experiences that
made me qualified for this internship.
The creative juices have dried up. Send me an email if you
think
I'll have an answer to your question. Have fun in these upcoming months
looking for a college.
Hope to see you on campus.
