Choosing a Major

Choosing a major, a.k.a. choosing what appears on your diploma.

This is somewhat of a difficult topic to offer guidance. Obviously, there are a ton of majors; the trick is finding one that you like.

My advice on this is very simple (and thus this letter short): don't decide early. I did, and I wish that I had taken more time to explore different subject areas.

I suggest that, regardless of the number of placement credits you come to college with, make sure to take classes in a smattering of subject areas. You might be shocked to find out that you really enjoy Slavic culture or philosophy more than chemistry or math.

Most of the areas of study at college don't appear as part of any high school curriculum that I know of. Don't base your major on what you know right now, explore a little first.

Take care, and enjoy any last-minute applications and most of all the waiting game!
