National Championship
Wow! As a senior, it was hard to think that we were ever going to bring back
a national championship while I was in school. After all we had an 8-20 record
when I was a freshman.
But in the final seconds of the game last night, it really started to hit me
that, if we kept in control, we were going to be the best team in the nation.
We were going to be above every other program... and that was a pretty overwhelming
thought.
And then, as the final buzzer sounded, the people started screaming. I started
screaming. My best friends started screaming. It was over. We had done it and
we had done the unthinkable. Good ol' Roy had turned the team into champions,
and as a student, I knew I was luck to get to share in these things.
After celebrating at home, we went to Franklin St. The crowd, though huge, was
nice. We were all out there to have a good time, and we certainly did.
I hope that each of you gets the chance to experience your team winning it all.
There's something special going on here now. It's a feeling of achieving together
and being more special today than we were yesterday. And yet, as fans, it's strange
to think that we put in all this energy and emotion, and we didn't really do
much of the work to win big.
So the night went long and will be forever memorable. As if winning a national
championship isn't great enough for one 24-hour period, I had the pleasure of
making the time even more memorable... I successfully defended my thesis this
morning at 11:30 a.m.!
With hope that your college search ends well,
