My
Background
First,
let me clear the air and tell you why my information is up on this
website for you and many other people to read: I like Carolina,
and I want to tell you about it so you'll like it, too.
I'm
not getting paid or being forced to do this. I'm writing about my
experience because I hope that it will give you a fresh and honest
look at what UNC is all about. I hope that you'll be able to think
about the questions that are important to you... the types of questions
I didn't know to ask while trying to decide on a college.
If
there's something anywhere in my information that doesn't make sense
or seems strange, give me some feedback.
Alright, now on with the show.
I'm
a junior from Virginia Beach, VA (yay out-of-staters). I'm still
trying to make up my mind about what I want to be when I grow up.
I've
been doing the pre-med track in preparation for possible med school
applications (which gives me a minor in chemistry), but I'm majoring
in journalism with a concentration on broadcasting. Hopefully I
can meld these two divergent areas of study and be a medical broadcast
journalist. Oh yes, and on the side, I have taken up an interest
in health public policy and work with a public policy professor.
And I probably shouldn't neglect that I study voice performance
through the music department.
I will
eventually need to nail something down, I know. For right now, though,
I'm sticking with my major and not necessarily sticking on the plan
of where that's taking me.
In
an attempt to stay focused and hone my skills, I currently work
at a commercial news/talk radio station in Chapel Hill - WCHL 1360
AM. You should dial it up on the radio when you come to town to
find out about local news.
Outside
of worrying about anything after college, I've been involved in
many different types of things on campus in an attempt to have a
little fun (don't worry, I've been successful). Everything from
an a cappella group, to the student news broadcast, to the campus
newspaper, to a fraternity.
Below
is a list of several of the different organizations that I've been
involved with, and you can click the name to visit an organization's
site.
Alpha
Epsilon Pi (hey! learn more about Greek
life on campus)
Carolina Week (campus
news broadcast)
Daily Tar Heel (campus
paper)
Hillel
National Society
of Collegiate Scholars
Order of the Bell Tower
Walk-Ons (a cappella)
Random
thing I've done at Carolina that few will get to do: sing the national
anthem before an athletic event.
