Give me one firm spot on which to stand and I will move the earth.” - Archimedes

My name is Jennifer Stevens, but everybody just calls me Jenny. I was born and raised in Wendell, North Carolina, which is a small town about 20 miles east of Raleigh. It’s one of those small towns you read about or see in movies like “Fried Green Tomatoes” where news travels faster than Donald Trump’s private jet. I am incredibly proud of coming from a small Southern town, and I’ll proudly show anybody around my little corner of the world.

I decided when I was 11 that I wanted to be a lawyer. This has been my ultimate ambition ever since, and I can’t imagine doing anything else with my life. Shortly after my decision to go to law school, I decided to major in political science. I am in the small minority of college students who has never once changed their major. I said on my application that I planned to major in political science and after officially declaring a major and minor, I’m still a political science major, only I added an English minor.

My plan is to attend law school here at Carolina and practice with a non-profit organization doing court advocacy for domestically and sexually abused women and children. Eventually, I plan to run for public office and ultimately, to represent the state of North Carolina in the United States Senate.

When I got to Carolina, I was absolutely petrified. There were only about 8 other students here from my high school, and they weren’t really part of my inner circle of friends. However, as a freshman I jumped head-first into student life at Carolina, and I soon found myself a very active member of several different student organizations. Of course, as a political science major, most of my organizations are political, including College Republicans and Conservative Women’s Voice (of which I am vice-president). I also played a strong role in Students for Bush and Students for Burr. I am also a member of Carolina Students for Life, a non-partisan organization to advocate women’s health and the right to life, and Blank Canvas, a student-run choreography/dance company. So basically, I don’t have a lot of time to myself, and that’s okay because I know that I am making a difference.

One thing that I have done in my nearly two years here at Carolina is organize a benefit concert through Conservative Women’s Voice. All the proceeds from this show are meant to go to Interact of Wake County, which is a private, non-profit United Way agency dedicated to the support, assistance, and advocacy of domestically abused women and children. This is a cause very near to my heart, and I believe wholeheartedly that if we come together as a community, we can eliminate domestic and sexual abuse.

I believe that my life here proves that Carolina affords its students incredible opportunities to branch out into the community and not only improve the world around them, but to improve their characters, as well. I love this place and I hope that you come to love it as much as I do.
