Part-Time Classroom Studies
Through Carolina’s Part-Time Classroom Studies program, students can take for-credit courses at Carolina.

Is Part-Time Classroom Studies Right for Me?
This program may be a good fit for you if:
- You live locally, have been away from a traditional school setting for at least one year, and have not yet earned a Bachelor’s degree.
- You’re a local high school student, or
- You’re a UNC employee who has not yet earned a Bachelor’s degree and is seeking to complete a degree.
If none of the situations above apply to you, there are other Carolina programs that may fit your goals:
- If you’ve earned a four-year degree, please submit a post baccalaureate application.
- If you’re a former Carolina undergraduate and didn’t complete your degree, please complete your Return to Carolina survey.
- If you’re a full-time student at another institution and wish to attend classes over the summer, apply to Summer School.

High School Students
High school students admitted to the part-time classroom studies program may take up to one class per semester. Any grades you earn will go toward your UNC GPA. If you later attend Carolina as an undergraduate student, you’ll begin with this GPA.
To enroll in part-time classroom studies, you must meet all the following criteria:
- You’re continuously enrolled in high school full-time.
- Your school does not offer a course comparable to the one you want to take here.
- You can demonstrate adequate academic preparation for the course.
High school students do not need to submit transcripts or test scores, but you must submit a letter from your counselor affirming you’ve met the above criteria and that the counselor approves of your decision to dual-enroll. Please send counselor letters to ptcs@admissions.unc.edu.
If you are planning to take STOR 155 or MATH 231 or higher, please submit your AP Calculus, SAT Subject Test Math level 1 or 2 exam scores, or official college transcript to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This lets us verify that you’ve satisfied the appropriate pre-requisite(s) before you register for courses at UNC.
