Cancelled Plans Spell Opportunity

When Alyssa Cooper couldn’t study abroad in Japan, she found a way to support the local Japanese community.

COVID-19 may have kept Alyssa in the United States, but it led her to a different opportunity. Serving as a research volunteer for the Southern Bridge International’s Prego Club, Alyssa investigates language barriers that pregnant or post-partum Japanese women face as they navigate the American medical system. For the native Japanese speaker and MacDonald Service Scholar, this project was the perfect way to support the Japanese community.
