Keep Up-To-Date On Financial Aid

  • Apply for financial aid if you haven’t already. Be sure to pay attention to deadlines.
  • Set up your official UNC username and email so that you’ll be able to view your financial aid offer and stay in touch with us to receive important updates.
  • Once you receive email notification of your financial aid offer, log into ConnectCarolina. Click the Student Center tile and navigate to “View Financial Aid Award.”

Share Important Details

  • We need your accurate Social Security Number (SSN). If you didn’t provide it on your application, please share it with us in your ConnectCarolina Student Center.
  • Sometimes we need more information to complete your financial aid offer. If we do, we’ll note this in your ConnectCarolina To-Do List, so check there regularly.

Understand Your Credit

  • You’ll receive your credit evaluation by email no later than May 9. This shows how your credit from high school and other universities will transfer to Carolina.
  • See how your credit will count toward the IDEAs in Action curriculum using the Tar Heel Tracker ‘What If’ Tool.
  • Visit the IDEAs in Action website to see which requirements you’ve already fulfilled and which you’ll still need to complete.
  • If your coursework was completed at a university outside of the United States, we’ll only be able to complete your transfer credit evaluation after we’ve received your required course-by-course transcript evaluation by World Education Services.

Enroll

  • Enroll by May 15 in MyCarolina. You’ll officially be a Tar Heel once you accept your offer of admission and pay your $250 non-refundable deposit.
  • If you’re an international student, look out for information from International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and be sure to log into the ISSS portal to upload any required documents.

After You Enroll

I came to Carolina for the people and the sense of community. We help each other here. My success is not deterred by someone else’s success.
      • Complete Required NCAA Form (Student-Athletes Only). To participate in NCAA athletics at Carolina, this step is required. You can access these forms in your enrollment checklist in MyCarolina.
      • Test scores. If you’d like college credit by exam, send us your official test scores via the respective testing service. You can see if your scores qualify for credit and then after we’ve received your scores, check ConnectCarolina to verify your credit has been properly awarded.
      • Honor code. If you’ve had any school-based disciplinary incidents or criminal charges, excluding any that have been expunged, since applying for admission, email us at unchelp@admissions.unc.edu. It’s rare that we’ve had to revoke an offer of admissions as a result. However, not letting us know in a timely manner may affect your decision.
      • Register for courses. We recommend that you register as soon as you accept your offer of admission and when your registration link is available in ConnectCarolina. Note: It may take up to 72 hours for your registration link to be active. These videos and Frequently Asked Questions can help you prepare.  You’ll also receive an email with registration tips.
      • Meet with academic advising. After you register for courses, you’ll have opportunities to meet with an advisor to review your schedule and make any adjustments.
      • Apply for on-campus housing. Applications for transfer students are reviewed on a first-come, first served basis. If you have a disability or medical condition, you may request an accommodation through the Office of Accessibility Resources and Service. Prefer to live off-campus? Here are some helpful resources.
      • Order your laptop by May 15. You’ll be required to have a laptop and can order one through the Carolina Computing Initiative.
      • Sign up for orientation by June 5. Look out for an email with details about how and when to sign up.
      • Submit your immunization and health history forms to UNC Campus Health by June 15.
      • Review the Cashier’s website for important information on billing, creating proxy access to your account for parents or family members, and setting up payment plans. Please note that your bill for the fall semester will be available in ConnectCarolina on July 15 with a due date of August 15.
      • By July 12, provide your college transcripts showing coursework and grades from this spring, even if you are taking college courses this summer. If you’ve earned an associate degree from a North Carolina community college, you’ll need to submit a final transcript that includes the date you were awarded your degree. View instructions in MyCarolina.
      • By July 12, provide a World Education Services (WES) course-by-course transcript evaluation if you have any university coursework completed outside of the United States. Remember that your complete transfer credit report will not be available until we have received this evaluation, if this applies to you.
      • Waive or enroll in UNC student health insurance by August 1. If you have questions about whether your financial aid package pays for the UNC System Student Health Insurance, please contact aidinfo@unc.edu.
      • Sign up for your optional meal plan.
