Research Opportunities

Everything you need to know about knowing lots more.

There’s a reason why nearly 60% of our students participate in ground-breaking research projects that explore areas such as genomics and nanomanipulation, poetry analysis and even cancer treatments at the world-renowned UNC Hospitals.

At Carolina, research isn’t just beakers, lab coats and stylish goggles. From studying ecosystems at a field site on the Galapagos Islands, to researching Spanish phonology, to unearthing the correlation between unemployment, obesity and race, there’s something for every interest and background. You can collaborate on research projects with real-world implications as early as your first year here, and if you can’t find a project that fits your interests, design your own. Just enroll in a First Year Seminar that offers a research component, or browse through the wide array of research opportunities listed in the undergraduate research database.

Learn more about what kind of research you could do by checking out the report from our annual undergraduate research symposium.
