Can I have the English Proficiency Exam requirement waived for my application?
We do not waive this proficiency exam requirement based on grades in English courses or SAT/ACT scores. However, we may waive this requirement if you meet one of the following conditions by the time you would enroll at Carolina.
- You will have lived for at least the last four years (including the current year) in a country where English is the primary language OR
- You will have attended a school where English is the primary language of instruction for at least the last four years (including your current academic year) prior to enrolling at UNC.
When you apply to Carolina, we’ll ask you questions related to your English proficiency experience and will waive this requirement automatically should you qualify.
