I was scheduled to take the SAT and ACT, but the testing dates have been cancelled. What if I only get to take the test one time? What if I don’t get to take it at all?

We understand that standardized testing can provoke anxiety under the best of circumstances, and we’re sorry that this anxiety is now being intensified by COVID-19. Because of COVID-19, the UNC System has approved a waiver of the SAT or ACT requirement for candidates who are applying for fall 2022 admission. This waiver means that you may apply whether or not you’ve taken either test. It also means that, if you’ve taken either test, you may share your scores and have us consider them.

If you want to apply, we hope you won’t delay because you haven’t taken either test. Whether or not you ultimately share test scores, we will consider you carefully and comprehensively for admission, scholarships, and other opportunities. We will also trust that you’re doing your best in an extraordinary time.

If you are able to take one of the tests and choose to submit your scores, we’ll see them as one factor among many, not as the sole or main feature of your application. We’ll also remember that, unlike many students who applied for admission in previous years, you may not have had the chance to take these tests multiple times.
