Readmission FAQs

Is the application fee required if I’m reapplying for readmission?

No. As of Spring 2017, the application fee is no longer required.

I’m academically ineligible. Can I still apply for readmission?

Yes. However, you must restore your eligibility to enroll by contacting Undergraduate Retention.

I’d like to change my major. Can I simply select that new major on the readmission application?

Yes, but we strongly encourage you to speak with an academic advisor about doing so.

How long does the application process take?

After you have submitted your application, all requested materials have been received, and there are no items on your Admissions To-Do List (located on the right-hand panel of your ConnectCarolina Student Center), you may expect a decision in your ConnectCarolina Student Center within two weeks.

I applied for readmission weeks ago, so why don’t I have a decision?

Please log into your ConnectCarolina Student Center and check your Admissions To-Do List (located on the right-hand panel of your ConnectCarolina Student Center). We can’t process your application until the items on your To-Do List have been completed. If there are no items on your To-Do List and it has been more than five business days since you submitted your application, please contact us.

I applied for readmission weeks ago, so why can’t I register?

When your decision is available, you may view it in your ConnectCarolina Student Center by scrolling to the bottom of the page, looking under the Admissions tab, and clicking on the hyperlink that states “Click here to view your decision in a new window.” You must click the link and take action on your decision before gaining access to course registration. After replying, please allow one to two business days for access to registration. If you still don’t have access to registration after this process, please view your ConnectCarolina Student Center as there may be a hold on your account.

If you have questions about your enrollment or registering for classes, please contact the Registrar’s Office directly.

I checked my Admissions To-Do List, and items (such as transcripts) are listed that the University should already have on file. Do I need to resubmit those items?

After submitting your application, an automatic checklist of required application materials is generated. We ask that you allow one business day for processing so that we may update your Admissions To-Do List (located on the right-hand panel of your ConnectCarolina Student Center). If we need additional information or documents, we will add them to your To-Do List after processing your application.

I am not meeting the undergraduate financial aid requirements of satisfactory academic progress. Can I get aid if I am approved for readmission?

A student who has been suspended from receiving aid should consider him or herself ineligible until otherwise notified. In certain circumstances, a student may appeal the suspension of financial aid. According to federal guidance, appeals may be made in the case of: injury, illness, the death of a relative, or some other unique circumstance.

How can I obtain my PID and create or re-activate my Onyen (UNC email)?

Once you have been admitted and accepted enrollment, please retrieve your Onyen and create your password. You’ll then need your Onyen to access ConnectCarolina and to register for courses.

I am an international student applying for readmission. When do I need to submit my application?

If you are applying and will require either an F1 or J1 visa, you must submit your application at least one month BEFORE the priority deadline for the term in which you wish to return to allow adequate time for the processing of your visa paperwork.

I was readmitted for Summer I but withdrew, do I need to apply for readmission if I want to attend classes in Summer II or Fall?

No, you will just need to register for Summer II or Fall classes. Please note that if you are academically ineligible at the end of Summer II, you will not be able to register for Fall courses, but you can enroll in Carolina Courses Online.

I was readmitted for Summer I but did not take classes during Summer II. Do I need to apply for readmission if I want to attend classes in the Fall?

No, if you are readmitted for Summer I, you are also granted registration access for Summer II and Fall (provided you are academically eligible), even if you do not attend Summer II.

I plan to take courses elsewhere while I am away from Carolina. Will my courses transfer?

Please click here for information on course approval for transfer credit. Please note that you must maintain an honorable conduct record at all other institutions you attend and have a “C” (2.0) average for all course work taken outside of Carolina to be eligible for readmission, regardless of your previous Carolina GPA.
