During Carolina Global Launch Orientation on August 14, you’ll have the opportunity to meet other students and campus partners, prepare for your time abroad, and connect with the Carolina community.

    • Academic Advising has provided the following resources for you to review ahead of time.

      • Gain a better understanding of the curriculum: Ideas in Action Overview.
      • Take this module for more information on transfer credit. While this module is geared towards students transferring in Fall 2023, the content is still accurate for you as a CGL student transferring to Carolina in Spring 2024.
    • Sunday, August 13 (4-6 p.m.): optional reception and campus tour

      Fedex Global Education Center on 301 Pittsboro Street.
      • Welcome to Carolina Reception with light refreshments
      • Campus Tour led by current Carolina students

       

      Monday, August 14 (9:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m.): Required orientation program

      Carolina Center for Genome Sciences on 250 Bell Tower Drive (enter lobby from Bell Tower Drive)

      *As marked below, students and families will attend some sessions, including lunch, separately.

      • 9-9:45 a.m. Check-in (opens at 9 a.m.) and light breakfast
      • 9:45-10 a.m. Welcome from UNC, Study Abroad, and API
      • 10-10:20 a.m.  New Student and Family Programs
      • 10:20-10:50 a.m. Carolina Housing
      • 11-11:45 a.m. Introduction to Academics and Advising (Students) | Partnering Together for Student Success: Advising at UNC (Parents/Families)
      • 12-12:45 p.m. Lunch (Students) | Overview of Orientation and Resources at Site Location (Parents/Families)
      • 1-2 p.m. Site-specific breakouts (Students) | Lunch (Parents/Families)
      • 2:15 p.m.- 3 p.m. Heels United: Our Carolina Community and Honor Code at Carolina (Students) | Partners in Transition (Parents/Families)
      • 3:15-4 p.m. Panel Discussion with CGL Alums
      • 4-4:15 p.m. Closing Remarks from UNC and API
    • Based on proximity to the Fedex Global Education Center, we recommend the following locations for parking:

      Parking is free at these locations and most campus spots during the weekend.

    • The following locations offer visitor parking for an hourly rate of $1.75. Please note that most of these options are a 10-15 minute walk from the Genome Sciences Building.

      • Rams Head Parking Deck*  –  Here are walking directions from the parking deck to Genome Sciences Building (250 Bell Tower Dr.) You’ll see “admissions event” signs along the way.
        • To exit the parking deck, take the elevator up to the top of the deck (Select level “P”) to access the plaza/brick path, which will take you around Kenan Stadium.
        • Make a left onto Stadium Drive.
        • Make a left onto South Road. You’ll pass the Bell Tower on the left.
        • Make a left onto Bell Tower Drive to reach Genome Sciences Building.
      • Raleigh Road Lot
      • Morehead Planetarium Lot
      • Digital parking meters, primarily along South and Country Club Roads

      *Rams Head Parking Deck may be fuller than normal as a fall orientation session is also happening on this day, and families are being directed to Rams Head Parking Deck as well.
